James is a designer at heart and is focused on making the complex world of business software dramatically simpler.
The founding team met and launched the tool when they were around 15 years old. They took an early $1m in investment many years ago and are now cash flow positive.
Their growth is coming mainly from creating content. For examples, they wrote a post when Google went down on “How Google’s Downtime affects business”.
1,000’s of press mentions and 50,000+ views. Used this as leverage to get on major media outlets like Bloomberg.
They’ve spent nothing on paid marketing in 2017 despite competing on 3 different war fronts with their 3 different products.
Their analytics product competes with Google Analytics, Mixpanel, and Kissmetrics.
Their live chat product competes with Drift, Intercom, and FB Messenger widget.
Their CRM product competes with Hubspot’s CRM, Pipedrive, Close.io.
They’re having success, just passing $50,000 in monthly recurring revenue in August, 2017.
When I asked if they’d sell for $2m, James shared that they’ve been offered more and have declined. He doesn’t want to miss the upside associated with the product categories he’s competing in.
